Cases of teenage pregnancies and early marriages are dropping in Chiradzulu thanks to school girls’ resolute participation in Girl Guide Association (GGA) events.

Last Saturday, education stakeholders met at Malavi Primary School to appreciate the girls’ success stories owing to their involvement in Girl Guide events.

Kachingwe addresses the school girls

Organisers of the event invited Chimwemwe Kachingwe, 25, the school’s alumnus, who is also a successful young female entrepreneur, as a role model to give a motivational talk to the girls.

In her remarks,Kachingwe advised the girls against rushing into early marriages due to lack of basic necessities or pressure from parents and guardians.

She said: “Education is key to your success, so always aim higher. Never get depressed, put off all your trials and focus on your education.”

Kachingwe stood as independent member of Parliament for Chiradzulu Central Constituency during the 2014 Tripartite Elections and came second out of 14 candidates. She also runs several family businesses.

Patron of Malavi Primary School GGA, Mary Chalimba , said they invited Kachingwe as a role model to inspire girls to work hard at school  to succeed in life. n
