Mlezi United on Sunday learnt football lessons the hard way after they were beaten 13-0 by Hungry Lions.

The Chipiku Lilongwe and Districts Football League (LDFL) Division Two fixture was played at Don Bosco ground.

Austin Makobidi inspired the massacre, when he notched five goals helped by Anderson Nasoni and Norton Kayira who had hat-tricks whereas Anxious Soko and Spinks Chirambo scored a goal each.

This is the highest victory this season, but the second in the league under Chipiku Stores sponsorship.

In the 2009 season, Adams FC walloped Nambuna United 17-2 when Adams needed to win by 15-goal margin to win the league.

Mlezi team manager Saveli Chitsulo, who accused the referee of bias, described Sunday’s defeat as a huge humiliation.

“This is the worst defeat for us since the team was formed. We had a poor turn-up of players, which left us with no choice in substitutions. People should not take it as a reflection of our performance,” said Chitsulo.

In the Premier Division, leaders Nambuna United extended their lead at top to five points after they stunned a 10-man Mtsiliza United 1-0 at Lilongwe Community Centre ground.

The visitors scored the priceless goal 30 minutes into the game through Toffan Kaphala soon after Mtsiliza were reduced to 10 men following a red card to Thoko Phiri for infringement.

Nambuma United have 31 points from 13 games.

In a Mponela derby, Maicc FC came from behind to hold Mponela United to a 1-1 draw at Mponela Community Centre ground on Sunday.
