Goodall jeered in Parliament

In a daring move, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Goodall Gondwe yesterday morning went to Parliament soon after selling off the hitherto government wholly owned Malawi Savings Bank MSB.

When news reached Parliament that Gondwe had put pen to paper marking the eventual sale of the bank, opposition members were seen holding secret caucuses apparently planning on how to react to the development.

Things worsened when Deputy Speaker Esther Mcheka-Chilenje announced that Gondwe had organised a dinner for all chairpersons and their deputies scheduled for 6pm.

This news infuriated an already tense situation, which resulted in opposition members of Parliament (MPs) standing up and throwing insinuating chants at Gondwe and President Peter Mutharika describing them as “thieves.”

“Goodall, Peter, wakuba, wakuba…” they sang.

Not to be outdone, government MPs retaliated with scornful songs against former president Joyce Banda also calling her “plunderer.”

Wakuba ndi Joyce osati Goodall ndi Peter…”

Mcheka-Chilenje had no option but to suspend proceedings after both sides seemingly could not heed her pleas for order.
