Government has hailed faith based organisation (FBO), Word Alive Commission for Relief Development (Wacrad) for development initiatives it is carrying out in the education sector in senior chief Somba’s area in Blantyre.

Wacrad is implementing Maphunziro ndi Chuma where it is training mother groups and developing early childhood development (ECD) initiatives for them to graduate into primary schools.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony of 39 infants into primary education, Christen Mipando, primary education desk officer for Blantyre, commended Wacrad for incentivising mother groups.

On his part, Wacrad associate director Petros Abbas said their initiatives have seen Unicef constructing some school blocks.

Speaking at the same function, St James head teacher, George Manjomo said the school previously had five classes, but Wacrad has helped them to have seven with 748 pupils.

“Standards Five and Six are learning under trees while Standard Seven uses the St James Catholic Church building and Standards One to Four use classrooms built by Unicef through the Wacrad initiative,” said Manjomo.
