Government keen to improve business environment

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (Mitc) says governments committed to addressing some of the challenges that businesses are facing in a bid to improve the operational environment.

Mitc chief executive officer Clement Kumbemba told Business News last week that government has been working on improving the business environment through policy, administrative, institutional and legal reforms.

Kumbemba: We are catching up

“This is an evolving process, and even Government is learning while on the job because the private sector-oriented development is a fairly new phenomenon not only in Malawi but in Africa, and many of us African countries have struggled to live up to its standards.  But we seem to be catching on the formula,” he said.

Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism chief investment officer George Kanthithi said his ministry said despite policy, regulation and administrative interventions, businesses are still facing challenges because of among others lack of awareness.
