She said: “Under the relief programme, money was sent directly to the schools to start the projects, an arrangement which many did not trust that it will work.

“But I am happy that the schools have proved that decentralisation works.”

Chang’anamuno also said her ministry is concerned that most schools do not have sufficient water supply, as such, her ministry will engage the Ministry of Water and Sanitation to prioritise connecting piped water in schools to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Kazomba Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) head teacher Mary Kamanga commended the ministry for constructing a borehole at the school.

Mzimba district director of education, youth and sports Fiddes Msowoya said the deputy minister’s visit will motivate schools to work hard.

The project included a completed classroom block at Kamarambo Primary School and a borehole each at Kazomba CDSS and Mzimba Secondary School.

The ministry allocated 24 boreholes to be constructed in Mzimba South schools.
