Household survey starts July

The Blantyre City Council (BCC) has said a comprehensive household survey to provide an evidence-based measure of factors keeping urban residents trapped in poverty will start next month.

BCC chief executive officer Ted Nandolo said this on Thursday at Hotel Victoria in Blantyre during a one-day Stakeholders’ Workshop on Education and Gender Needs Assessment reports.

In 2006, Blantyre was one of the chosen cities in Africa to participate in the Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI) Programme which will look at various social sectors including health, gender, education and sanitation.—MWERETI KANJO, Staff Reporter
