Ng’onamo (L): I cannot continue

Big Bullets technical director Eddingtone Ng’onamo has said he will part ways with the People’s Team after their final Super League game against Epac on Friday.

In a sheer display of loyalty to the current Bullets executive, in particular Chairperson Malinda Chinyama, Ng’onamo said he will quit because the current leadership that took him on board, will be stepping down at the end of the season.

“I have done my part. In fact, all of us [entire technical panel] will step down because we were employed by Mr. Chinyama and, therefore, there will be no reason to stay on.

“The executive committee that will be elected will put in place another technical panel,” said Ng’onamo in an interview yesterday morning.

Asked if he will reconsider his decision should the prospective executive committee decide to maintain him as head of the technical panel, Ng’onamo said: “Then I would have to think about it, but my position is that I want to rest and concentrate on my job and other things.”

He claimed to have an open contract with Bullets. He added that it will be the new panel that will be entrusted with rebuilding the team.

Bullets coach Gerald Phiri Snr recently told The Nation that he was not certain about his future as the club is set to go to the polls during off-season.

The People’s Team is on unenviable eighth position with 40 points and the furthest they can go is seventh position that is if they win their remaining game and Red Lions lose to Azam Tigers—quite a tall order.

Meanwhile, Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire has announced that he will not vie for any position when the club goes to the polls.

“Just like my chairperson, I too will not contest at the forthcoming elections, but I am happy to have contributed towards the team’s resurgence.

“As you might be aware, when we took over, this team was on the verge of extinction, but it took a lot of commitment and dedication to turn it around and we managed to end the cup drought by winning the Presidential Cup and we also missed the championship by a whisker last season when we tied on points with eventual champions, Silver Strikers. We were only separated by goal difference,” said Mkandawire.

He also said they put structures in place by among other things, opening a clubhouse that generated revenue for the club.

“This season, we struggled mainly because of internal wrangles and my plea to the Bullets family is that let us all join hands for the good of the team. We should not put people in positions just because they have a lot of money. We should elect people that can take the team forward,” said Mkandawire.
