If I were Khumbo Kachali

Vice-President of the Republic of Malawi, I would dig deep into my heart and do some soul-searching considering the events that nearly put my reputation in tatters last week. In particular, the remarks I made that President Joyce Banda and myself, though travelling on taxpayers’ money, do not visit people’s mothers.

Yes, much as I did some damage control by offering a public apology, I would appreciate that the comments I made are a possible damage to my political future.

If I were Dada Kachali, I would appreciate that while to err is human, the words I uttered should give plenty of food for thought on the need to act as a mature politician, especially being the second citizen on the land.

I would appreciate that such arrogance has the potential to destroy my political career.

I would also realise that while the damage had already been done when I offered a public apology over my mistake, I would still pick myself up and get on the saddle having learnt from my mistake.

That is if only I were Sibweni Khumbo Kachali. Unfortunately, I am not the Right Honourable Vice-President of the Republic of Malawi.
