Illovo Dwangwa estate support services manager Jeremy Ngolombe said Illovo Sugar is committed to ensuring that the welfare and well-being of communities in the district is looked after.

“We understand the interdependence between our business and the community. This is why we decided to come in and play a role. For a hospital to provide effective and efficient medical care to its patients, there is need for a functional pharmacy,” he said.

Ngolombe thanked Illovo’s business partners Unitrans, Ethco, GardaWorld and Nkhanga Essential Services for mobilising K8 million which was used for maintenance work which included ceiling and roof rehabilitation, shelves and repainting.

Nkhotakota acting district commissioner Ben Tonho described Illovo as true partners of development.

He said: “Recently, you were here to donate Covid-19 medical equipment worth millions and today you are here handing over this pharmacy. We are grateful for your support as you have proved to be a true partner of development by complementing government’s efforts in providing good medical care.

“When fire damaged this facility, we reached out to many companies, but it is only you who came to our rescue.”

Nkhotakota District director of health and social services Dr Wezi Mumba said when the facility was damaged, it affected the daily operations of the hospital.

“As you know government cannot do everything alone. That’s why we approached Illovo. We are truly appreciative of the support they give us,” she said.
