A head injury has forced Moyale Barracks FC talisman Deus Nkutu out of the TNM Super League Golden Boot Award race.

Nkutu has scored 16 goals, so far, just a goal shy of his twin striker and leading scorer Gastin Simkonda.

He suffered the head injury in Saturday’s TNM Super League decider, which was against Big Bullets, when he collided with Yamikani Fodya in an aerial duel. He had to be rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where he was admitted until the following morning.

Moyale team manager Victor Phiri yesterday said Nkutu cannot recover in time for their last fixture against Blue Eagles this weekend.

“He fell unconscious and needs a bit of time to recuperate. He cannot, therefore, be fit for the Eagles match,” said Phiri.

The Eagles match could have provided Nkutu a chance to either catch up with Simkonda or overtake him.

Nkutu could not be reached for comment.

The Golden Boot Award goes with a K100 000 (about $200) prize.
