Thindwa: I will have to weigh the options

Epac FC talisman and Super League top scorer-designate Ishmail Thindwa has said he wants to get a new lease of life elsewhere.

The lanky forward, who is tipped to win the flagship football league Golden Boot Award, said he feels it is time he made a switch.

“It is not that I am not happy at Epac. In fact, they have been good to me and they meet all my requirements.

“But in this game, there comes a time when you have to move on and experience a different environment as well as face new challenges, mwana wang’ona sakulira dziwe limodzi,” said Thindwa in a telephone interview from the capital on Tuesday.

However, the gangly striker, who has scored 15 league goals this season, said he has no team in mind.

“I have not thought of any team yet, but if I am approached by some then I will have to weigh the options,” he said.

However, Big Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire claimed that they are already chasing Thindwa’s signature.

“We wanted to sign him at the start of the season, but our efforts were frustrated by Epac who came up with a rather exorbitant price.

“I have already been in touch with Ishmail and we’ll continue from where we stopped. We have also been in touch with Epac patron [Dini Josaya Banda] and he has agreed that we should discuss the matter,” said Mkandawire.

The Bullets spokesperson further claimed that Thindwa is a Bullets fan and has always wanted to don the team’s red and while colours.

“He has always wanted to play for Bullets because he admires the team. So, we will make sure he fulfils his wish,” he said.

But Thindwa laughed-off Mkandawire’s claims.

“It is not true to say I am a Bullets supporter. That perception is not correct,” he said.

Asked if he feels he is now in the comfort zone in the chase for the Golden Boot Award, Thindwa was a bit cautious, saying: “Football is such a dramatic game in which the mood can swing so quickly and you never know what will happen.”

As at now, only Silver Strikers’ Green Harawa has a realistic chance of either catching up or overtaking Thindwa, in the event that Sulom orders a replay of their game against Mighty Wanderers.

Harawa has scored nine goals, which means he would have to score six or seven goals to catch up or displace Thindwa.
