French children book author Herve Tullet is in Malawi visiting Jacaranda School of Orphans.

“I started writing children’s books 18 years ago when I realised that I had the talent to teach while entertaining young ones. I understand that the children at Jacaranda are orphans and it is my wish to inspire them to adopt a reading culture.

“Usually, children’s books are decorated and predictable. That is not my style. I am neither a good painter nor author but I have a wide imagination that I use to teach and promote fun among children,” said Tullet.

The school’s executive director Luc Deschamps said he was happy that Tullet had accepted to visit Malawi.

“I met Tullet in France and he was interested in visiting Jacaranda.

“Apart from this workshop, we are planning to paint the school’s wall with Tullet’s guidance. The children will look at it as fun because they will use their imagination and creativity,” said Deschamps.

Tullet was born in 1956 in France and he was once into advertising and art directing before he became a children’s book author. His works are based on art with the aim of encouraging young children to use imagination when reading.

One of his famous books is Press Here which was published in more than 40 languages across the world.
