Jangale’s future at FAM hazy

Mist surrounds one of Football Association of Malawi (FAM) longest serving employees club licencing and compliance manager Casper Jangale who is reported to have resigned yesterday.

A source at the association confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda on Monday.

But Jangale, who joined the association in 2005, in an interview yesterday sounded cryptic about the issue and the reasons behind his resignation.

He said: “I might stay or I might go. I will be able to confirm to you later in the evening.”

Jangale: I might stay or go

Asked on his next move if he leaves the association, Jangale said there are several options for him.

He said: “There are several options in this country. If I leave, it means I have found another opportunity somewhere whether within the football industry or even in another area.”

Gunda, however, in an interview could not say whether the association has accepted or rejected Jangale’s resignation.

He said: “Matters of employment are between employer and employee. I cannot discuss the letter in the media.

“But necessary procedures will be taken so that both the employee and employer reach an amicable understanding.”

If Jangale leaves, he will be the fourth manager to part ways with the association.

So far, finance director Christopher Mdolo, referees development manager Fredrick  Kholopa and marketing director Limbani Matola have left the association.

FAM did not renew Matola’s contract while Mdolo has joined Council for Southern Africa Football Associations.

On the other hand, Kholopa’s contract has also not been renewed.

Meanwhile, competitions director Gomezgani Zakazaka is also negotiating with FAM on  a new contract.

Initially, only the general secretary, marketing director and technical director were employed on contract.

But FAM has now introduced contracts for all directors, a move administration and finance subcommittee chairperson Lameck Khonje said is aimed at improving efficiency at the secretariat.

He said: “The issue of contracts was introduced last year. But other directors were still on open employment. Now we are putting all of them on contracts.”

FAM is also expected to advertise the vacant positions, according to Khonje.

He said: “In the past people were employed without procedure.

“We are doing away with that. All jobs will be advertised.”
