Japan builds 5 community day secondary schools

The Japanese Government has constructed five community day secondary schools (CDSSs) in the Central Region.

The schools are Mwalawanyenje in Kasungu, Mlodza, M’binzi, Kabwabwa and Mwatibu in Lilongwe.

Speaking during the official opening of the schools at Mwatibu in Nathenje in Lilongwe on Saturday, Japanese Ambassador Kae Yanagisawa said the construction of CDSSs is part of Reconstruction and Construction of Selected CDSS Phase III Project.

“This project complements Japan’s long-time commitment to supporting the education sector in the country. I would like to reiterate the need for Malawi to provide quality education. For this to happen there is need to take care of school facilities,” he said.

Minister of Education, Science and Technology Bright Msaka described Japan as a true friend of Malawi.

“Japan has contributed enormously to the development of secondary education in Malawi.

“Most of our community day secondary schools have new faces now, courtesy of the programme of rehabilitation and expansion of community day secondary schools, which Japan has helped us champion.

“Our schools have new and modern equipment, which has improved the teaching and learning experience in these schools,” he said.

The new schools have eight classrooms, administration block, a library, modern laboratory, toilets, a borehole and teachers’ houses.  Mwatibu alone has eight teachers’ houses.
