The Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (Celd) has recognised Malawi President Joyce Banda for her role in uplifting the welfare of women and developing their capacity to be economically self- reliant.
Celd, established in 2004 with over 8 000 members globally, presented African Most Influential Female Leader of the Year Award on Friday through the Global Forum on African Women in Leadership in New York, United States.
Speaking when she received the award, Banda said the recognition will act as an impetus to continue with efforts to improve lives of women and girls.
“This award gives me renewed energy to work on the vision of women empowerment as a catalyst for accelerating socio-economic growth,†said Banda.
