JB lays stadium foundation stone

Malawi President Joyce Banda on Wednesday laid a foundation stone at the site of the new state-of-the-art stadium to be constructed in Lilongwe’s Area 49 with funding from the Chinese government.

Accompanying the President at the ceremony were the Chinese Ambassador Pan Hejun and Malawi’s Minister of Transport and Public Infrastructure Sidik Mia.

The project, whose funding and Lilongwe location was approved by Parliament, has just been relocated to the capital after being moved to Blantyre by the administration of the late president Bingu wa Mutharika which claimed that Lilongwe had had a fair share of Chinese-funded projects.
