If I were

President of the Republic of Malawi, I would take time to conduct some soul-searching on my leadership as the year comes to an end.

If I were my good ole mum ‘Mimi’, I would appreciate that while I have done a commendable job in some areas, I have not done well in others.

If only I were Her Excellency, I would kneel down and pray to the Lord Almighty to give me wisdom as I lead the nation in the coming year and help me improve on my shortfalls.

If I were my good ole’ mum, I would realise I did well to reverse my decision to appoint Vice-President Khumbo Kachali to oversee the Electoral Commission, but I would appreciate that there is still more that I have to work on so that I take this country to another level.

Yes, I have won donor confidence and improved the fuel situation in the country, but I would also swallow my pride and reduce on my local travel to distribute maize flour and bonya because there are more relevant and suitable authorities that can handle those duties.

As I start the new year, I would also desist from indirectly castigating my political opponents.

That is if I were my good mum Joyce Banda. Unfortunately, I just happen to be her beloved son Garry.

That said; allow me to wish you a happy and prosperous 2013. To God be the glory!
