Junior Flames in morale-boosting SA win

Listen to this article

Malawi Under-20 national team edged hosts South Africa’s Amajita 1-0 yesterday at the Nike Stadium, Soweto, in a practice match.

The result was a morale booster for coach Ernest Mtawali as they proceed to Botswana for the April 25 return leg of the 2015 Africa Youth Championship preliminary round qualifier.

Sketchy details coming from South Africa indicate that the Junior Flames’ newly drafted striker Chawanangwa Kaonga did his growing scoring career a lot of good by scoring the winner.

Having drawn 1-1 at the Kamuzu Stadium a few weeks ago and needing a win at all costs on April 25 in Gaborone, Mtawali has his work cut out.

Either Malawi or Botswana face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the last qualifying two-legged round for a place at the 2015 Senegal finals.
