Kabwafu FC started the second leg of the TNM Super League on a flying start as they defeated Bvumbwe Research 3-2 on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium.

Former Embangweni FC matchmaker Dan Lusale put Kabwafu in front in the ninth minute after receiving a pass from Charles Chilembo outside the box.

But Bvumbwe quickly reorganised themselves and equalised through Vincent Chinthenga two minutes after restart.

Shortly afterwards, Bvumbwe defence was again caught napping. A counter-attack involving Lusale, Chilembo and Robert Chima, set free Charles Mwanyongo who hammered home Kabwafu’s second goal.

Sensing danger, Bvumbwe coach Bob Mpinganjira made several changes, which led to Ben Mbewe strucking an equaliser in the 33rd minute.

Unhappy with Anderson Magugu’s goalkeeping, Kabwafu supporters called for his replacement to which their coach Oscar Kaunda complied by bringing in Mabvuto Nyasulu.

Nyasulu proved superb as he frustrated all Bvumbwe’s attempts to get a winning goal. Instead, it was Kabwafu’s substitute Christopher Njikho who carrierd the day.

“I am excited to win this match. It is a sweet revenge as we lost to them 3-1 in the first leg,” said Kaunda.

On his part, Mpinganjira said his team was punished for its wastefulness.

Kabwafu now have 13 points from 15 games whereas Bvumbwe have 12 points from similar number of games.
