Golf in the Central Region is expected to be taken to another level as Kachere Golf Club of Kasungu has secured sponsorship from Vanguard Life Insurance Company.

Kachere Golf Club manager Ali Lazarus and Vanguard marketing manager Isaac Kalebe confirmed the development in separate interviews.

“We are now going to be a vibrant golfing institution following Vanguard’s Life Insurance Company’s pledge to sponsor us,” said Lazarus in Mzuzu last week on the sidelines of a Nico General Golf Tournament last Saturday.

“We have a secure golfing course as it is within the perimeter fence of the Kamuzu Academy. Our opponents will sweat for their victory,” he said.

On his part, Kalebe said the news was true. But could not go into details as to how much was at stake because they were still discussing the matter.

“We have committed ourselves to enhance golf at Kachere, but in terms of the modalities and funding, I think you need to wait as discussions are under way,” said Kalebe.

Meanwhile, the Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) chairperson James Chimwaza has hailed Vanguard Life Insurance Company for its gesture to promote golf in the rural areas, considering that golf sponsorship has gone to clubs in the cities.

He appealed to the youth in the area to grab the opportunity and showcase their talent if the golf national team is to win medals at international level.

National team golf coach Chris Kachiguma also hailed Vanguard for the sponsorship. He appealed to other companies to follow suit.
