The South African online publication also quoted former Flames’ coach Ernest Mtawali as having said he is confident that Kaliati will succeed at the Cape Town-based side.
“He is a brilliant youngster, a versatile and intelligent player. He played for Azam Tigers before moving to Wanderers. He was part of the Under-20 [national] team and I promoted him to the senior national team in 2016,” Mtawali is quoted as saying.

“He has been outstanding here at home [in Malawi] and deserves the move to the PSL. I have no doubt he will add value to Cape Town City and succeed in South Africa.”
Meanwhile, Wanderers team manager Stevie Madeira has said they are happy for Kaliati.

“We are happy for the lad; he deserves it because he has been consistent and outstanding. His contract [with Wanderers] is almost over, so we won’t stand in his way. He went there with our blessings and we wish him well,” he said.

Kaliati will become the seventh Malawian in the South African top-flight league. The others are Limbikani Mzava, Chiukepo Msowoya (Golden Arrows), Robert Ng’ambi, Gerald Phiri Jnr (Platinum Stars), Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango (Bidvest Wits), Atusaye Nyondo (Bloemfontein Celtic) and Esau Kanyenda (Polokwane City).
