Kalua: Super League teams will struggle

The Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) chairperson Trouble Kalua has bemoaned poor coverage of the country’s oldest league.

During prize presentation of last season’s outstanding teams and individuals at the Chiwembe Technical Centre, Kalua said the development contributes to declining football standards in the Super League’s feeder division.

“Last season’s coverage was very poor. If you cover the league, you are not uplifting me, but you are contributing to football development. If this league declines, the Super League clubs will also struggle,” he noted.

Kalua urged the Southern Region media to emulate their Central Region counterparts such as Zodiak Broadcasting Station, which is giving exposure to the region’s league and that of the Simama League in the North.

He said there were still some reporters who gave the league some coverage, including to the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Women Football League.

The Nation’s Solomon Manda was voted the best for the women league in print media category while Phillip Business of MBC was the best in both leagues in electronic media.
