Prominent public prosecutor Kamudoni Nyasulu has been reassigned to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after he successfully secured convictions as a lead prosecutor for the State in all his Cashgate cases at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The private practised lawyer has been posted to the graft-busting body to help prosecute specific cases on an initial period of one year, ACB deputy director general Reyneck Matemba said on Wednesday.

Government first engaged the services of the retired DPP in 2013 under the sponsorship of the European Union (EU) to prosecute Cashgate cases.

Matemba said government had assigned Nyasulu to handle particular Cashgate cases, which he could not reveal, adding that possibilities to change the cases were high due to the continued inquiries.

Nyasulu’s last high-profile Cashgate case as a lead prosecutor was in August 2015 which involved Caroline Savala before he was replaced by former Ombudsman Enock Chibwana.

Nyasulu, who reported for work at ACB last week, has served as DPP, consultant lawyer and prosecutor at United Nations tribunals.

He came into the limelight in 1996 when, as DPP, he prosecuted founding president Hastings Kamuzu Banda, his confidante Mama Cecilia Tamanda Kadzamira and veteran politician John Tembo in the Mwanza murder case. n
