Kanengo Police net 52 in sweeping exercise

Kanengo Police Station on Tuesday arrested 52 people suspected to have been involved in various crimes.

According to Kanengo Police Station spokesperson Salomy Zgambo Chibwana, six of the 52 suspects face charges of being found in possession of Indian hemp.

She said five of the suspects are being charged with selling liquor without licence while two face charges of being found in possession of property believed to have been stolen and 38 were picked for being idle and disorderly during the sweeping exercise.  

“These suspects have been arrested in Mgona, Ngomani, Area 25B, Area 49 Proper, Area 49 Dubai, and Msungwi Trading Centre,” said Chibwana.

She said police have recorded caution statements from the 52 suspects and are awaiting analysis of the Indian hemp before taking them to court for prosecution. n
