Kanyenda, Sangala could feature on July 6

Flames coaching panel wants to assess defender James Sangala and veteran forward Esau Kanyenda in the July 6 international friendly match which is still being arranged.

Assistant coach Jack Chamangwana said while they are happy that Sangala has finally found a club, they would want to assess him in an international game situation.

“It is good that he has found a team, but we have also arranged special drills for him for two days per week and, hopefully, we can have a look at him on July 6,” said Chamangwana.

He also confirmed that they would want Kanyenda to play in readiness for the Benin game.

Kanyenda last played for the Flames against Ghana in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in October 2012 while Sangala last featured for Malawi in the game against Nigeria in the 2014 World Cup qualifier last September.

Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda has said they are still waiting for official confirmation from government before they can proceed to finalise the July 6 friendly that will be part of the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations.
