Karonga to host North Simso League prize presentation

The prize presentation ceremony for the 2018 Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Simama and Sons (Simso) Premier League will take place tomorrow at Mufwa Lodge in Karonga.

Previuosly, the event was only held in Mzuzu.

Chitipa United will be crowned champions

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, NRFA general secretary Masiya Nyasulu said the ceremony will take place in Karonga as one way of appreciating the support of the district’s fans.

“The sponsor also advised us to hold the event in Karonga. We supported the sponsors’ recommendation because we will reach out to district communities where they also give us support,” he explained.

Before the function, Karonga-based Premier League side Baka City and the champions Chitipa United will play a ceremonial football match.

Reacting to the development, Chitipa United general secretary Pickfold Kamanga applauded the association for arranging to stage the event close to their base.

“What is more exciting is that the event will take place in Karonga which is close to our home [Chitipa],” he said.

According to NRFA treasurer Chauka Mwasinga, Chitipa will receive K2 million as champions while runners-up Bolero United of Rumphi will get K1 million.

Third-placed Fish Eagles will receive K600 000 and Ekwendeni Hammers, who finished fourth, will get K300 000.

The league is sponsored to the tune of K7 million with Bishop Abraham Simama and Sons pumping in K5 million and K2 million is from Superior & Flora Cooking Oil.

Pezani Simama representing the sponsors, said they are satisfied with the way the league’s management.

“The league was run well and as sponsors we are very impressed,” he said.

Twenty teams participated in the league this season.
