There has been commotion at Sandulizeni Village, Sub-Traditional Authority (ST/A) Chaima in Kasungu  for the past days as people from surrounding villages have been flocking to see a woman who is said to have risen from the dead.

According to relatives, Natchuma Banda, 39, died in February 2015 after being struck by lightning.

Some of the woman’s relatives are also claiming that a few days after she was laid to rest, some people used to meet her, but each time they tried to approach her, she would  disappear into thin air.

It was until Sunday, October 2 this year when the woman is said to have gone to a house in a near-by village where she requested water to bathe, according to the relatives.

Drama started after the alleged resurrected woman was taken to the village they say she was staying before she died and a lot of people have been flocking there ever since.

Kasungu Police Station deputy spokesperson Harry Namwaza said police were told about the commotion in the village on Thursday.

“After realising that the situation was getting out of hand, the village chief called the police and we rushed to the scene to calm the situation,” said Namwaza.

Namwaza added that the police also took the woman under the protest of her relatives to Kasungu District Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Meanwhile, the relatives, who have since taken back the woman, believe her death was the act of witchcraft. n
