Kasungu school girls in education boost

A bout 50 girls secondary schools in Kasungu were yesterday exposed to a number of institutions and successful individuals in Lilongwe to motivate them to work hard in their studies.

The learners were taken to Timveni Television and Radio Station, Zodiak Broadcasting Television (ZBS) television and radio studios, and Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) where they toured a number of departments, including Air Traffic Control and Fire departments.

During the tour, female workers at the institutions gave motivational talks to the learners.

The climax of the tour was when the girls had a spelling competition with learners from the elite Mount Sinai International School in Lilongwe.

The girls were brought together by Plan Malawi under the Building Skills for Life Project where the organisation aims at empowering girls to excel in their education.

Plan Malawi project officer Nehemiah Jere said by targeting girls who, initially were not doing well in their respective classes, the project is sending a message to other girls that success in education is not a far fetched dream.

Tiwonge Gondwe, a Form Two girl from Kawale Community Day Secondary School in Kasungu, said that the she had learned a lot from the trip and she believes that she now has reasons to work hard in class. n
