Kayira vows to humiliate Moliati

Mzuzu-based Laston Kayira has vowed to humiliate Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer Chrispine Moliati when the two meet today in Lilongwe in a non-title fight.

Superior Boxing Promotions has organised the bout, which will take place at the Lilongwe Community Centre ground.

Speaking from Mzuzu on Thursday, Kayira said he is conversant with Moliati’s style after fighting him in Blantyre last year.

Moliati: I will beat him

“I believe this time around I will beat and humiliate him at his own turf. I have been training hard and I know how to contain him,” said Kayira.

When the two boxers last met in Blantyre Moliati won on points. Kayira has fought 10 times. He boasts of five wins, two losses and three draws.

“Since we lost to Moliati we have never stopped training. My boxer is always in the gym. He is in very great shape and we are going to Lilongwe to win,” his manager Philip Ngwira said.

Kayira has increased his weight to 60 kilogrammes from 58 kilogrammes to match Moliati in the junior welterweight category.

Despite such blatant confidence from Kayira and his camp, Moliati sounded unperturbed saying he is not awed.

“Of course he (Kayira) is a good boxer but he has not reached the level to beat me. I have no doubt whatsoever that I will beat him,” said Moliati who is re-launching his career after some bad performances which saw him playing second fiddle to fellow MDF boxer Salimu Chazama recently.

Superior Boxing Promotions director Japhet Majekete urged boxing fans to patronise the bout.

“What we are encouraging boxing fans is to come in their large numbers and watch two good boxers fight. These two boxers fight clean and are very entertaining,” said Majekete. n
