Kinnah insists Flames still strong without key players

Flames coach Kinnah Phiri and FAM insist that the decision by the coaching panel to expel two key players from the national team on disciplinary grounds will not affect the strength of the team ahead of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

Kinnah and senior members of his backroom staff—his deputy Young Chimodzi and technical adviser Jack Chamangwana— expelled midfielders Dave Banda and Frank Banda after they allegedly turned up drunk at Chiwembe Technical Centre camp in the wee hours of Monday.

Already, another key member of the squad Gabadinho Mhango has also excused himself to sit for examinations.

Said Kinnah: “We still have a strong side even without them. In fact, the others that have been taken on board such as Patrick Masanjala and Bernard Harawa are doing very well.

“We cannot compromise on discipline regardless of players’ status. Discipline is of paramount importance.”

The coach also disclosed that he will recommend strong disciplinary action against the two players to FAM.

Frank refused to comment on his expulsion on Tuesday morning while Dave could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, FAM has thrown its weight behind the technical panel’s decision to expel the two.

Last week, Kinnah also sent back Silver Strikers winger Peter Pindani for alleged indiscipline at his club.
