“By defying the odds to win the Chipiku Central Region Football Association [CRFA] and earn promotion into the top-flight league, Dedza Young Soccer have done us all proud here in Dedza.

“The Super League is very demanding in terms of finances and I thought of giving them a starterpack to help them meet some of the costs,” said Kunkuyu.

The team’s marketing officer Wesley Malenga said the contribution will go a long way in meeting the expenses in the Super League.

“Playing in the Super League requires a lot of money and we are very thankful to Mr. Kunkuyu for his timely gesture. We will be following up on the pledge with him very soon,” said Malenga.

During the ceremony, Kunkuyu also pledged to continue sponsoring the K1 million DDFL.

According to the league’s general secretary Harold Mmora, Soccer Saints were officially crowned champions and went away with K250 000 plus a trophy, their runners-up Mcheneka FC got K125 000.

There were also consolation prizes for teams that finished third, fourth and fifth.

Kapesi Hungry Lions got the fair play award and there were other individual awards. All the 16 teams also got a ball each.
