Lady Aika partners with Oxfam Ibis

In a bid to amplify the fight for sexual health rights and education in rural areas, local musician Lady Aika has signed a partnership deal with Oxfam Ibis-funded Civil Society Education Coalition in Malawi.

She signed the deal on August 11 in Lilongwe.

Lady Aika: I am motivated

Oxfam ibis is an international organisation that works to promote human rights, social justice and sustainable development.

This campaign focuses on young girls in rural areas who face education, gender equality and health challenges.

Oxfam Ibis coordinator Richard Banda said Lady Aika is perfect for the partnership since she is school-going.

“Oxfam’s partnership with Lady Aika aims to address critical challenges faced by girls in rural areas. By collaborating with a relatable and inspiring figure like Lady Aika, Oxfam Ibis seeks to encourage girls to continue their education and prevent them from dropping out due to pregnancy,” he said.

Banda added that arts and entertainment is an effective tool to promote social change and awareness.

“Arts and entertainment can reach a wide audience, engage people on an emotional level and make complex issues more accessible. Additionally, it also provides a platform for marginalised voices to be heard,” he said.

Lady Aika, real name Malaika Chikalimba, said that the campaign resonates with her values and personal experience.

“I am motivated by my personal journey of dropping out and returning to school. This campaign reflects my values and passion for helping girls get a second chance on education,” she said.

Aika vowed to use her influence to inspire girls to prioritise education.

“This partnership provides me with crucial exposure and financial resources to fund my education at university,” she said.

Meanwhile, the artist has attended campaigns in five districts of Dowa, Dedza, Mulanje, Mchinji, and Mangochi.
