As part of the build up to the 2015 Lake+of+stars+crowd+1 (LoS), the project will host a musical concert at this year’s Mount Mulanje Porters’ Race.

Dubbed Island in the sky community concert, it will take place tomorrow.

The project, which is inspired by the desire to help promote Malawi as a tourist destination, has partnered with the 2015 Porters’ Race to celebrate and promote the race as it marks its 19th anniversary this year.

“The first of its kind, the Island in the Sky Concert has been designed to entertain people from the Mulanje community and tourists who travel across the continent to participate in this epic race,” says LoS director Will Jameson.

With musical performances from George Kalukusha, Bucci, Jacapella, Trumel and South Africa’s DJ Toby2shoes, concert goers are definitely in for a treat.

The concert will also feature a dance performance from Jacaranda Steppers, Queen Steppers and Floor Steppers.

“We are very excited to be part of the race as it not only gives LoS the opportunity to support an established tourist event that has put Malawi on the map but it also gives us the privilege to interact with people from Mulanje and bring a bit of the festival to this beautiful part of the country,” stated Jameson.

To spice up the race, he said: “I, together with Gospel Kazako, managing director of Zodiak Broadcasting Station; an LoS media partner will be running in the main race as well as the LoS team of Yolanda Ng’oma and Fran Jameson will participate the Save the Children Fun Run.”

The concert, which is a free entry event, will run from 1pm to 5pm and registration for the porters race ends 30 minutes before the race begins at 6am.

The race course runs from Likhubula Valley through Chambe and Lichenya Plateau and back to Likhubula.

With the combination of sport, music and culture, the 2015 Mount Mulanje Porters’ Race will be nothing short memorable.
