Leopards change tune on Namwela

In a dramatic turn of events, South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Black Leopards have said they will sign Mighty Wanderers captain Foster Namwela in the next transfer window, in January.

The development comes two months after the Flames centre-back failed to make the grade at the Limpopo-based side, when he underwent trials.

However, Leopards owner David Thidiela said after reviewing the issue surrounding Namwela’s trials, management decided to take him on board.

“It is true, we are planning to offer Namwela a contract after a critical analysis of his performance during trials. We have already communicated with our agent that side Kondi [Msungama] on the decision,” said Thidiela in a telephone interview from South Africa on Saturday.

Msungama confirmed Leopards’ change of heart on Saturday.

“It would appear management is not impressed with the Zimbabwean defender whom the coaching panel opted for. So, indeed, I have been informed by Leopards management that they will offer Foster [Namwela] an outright deal in the next transfer window,” said Msungama.

Namwela confirmed being communicated to about the development, but Nomads general secretary David Kanyenda expressed ignorance about the issue.

Apart from Namwela, Leopards also have another Malawian defender Harry Nyirenda.

Other Malawian players who have played for Leopards include Peter Mponda, Robert Ng’ambi, Fischer Kondowe, Grant Lungu and Dave Banda.
