Lilly Alfonso back on runway
Malawi returns on the fashion runway this month when the LA fashion label by the country’s top fashion designer Lilly Alfonso participates in the second leg of the Africa Fashion Reception.
She, together with 23 other African designers, were selected by Legendary Gold Limited, a leading global fashion organiser based in Africa.
This will be the second time for Alfonso to participate in this event, which is a collaboration of Legendary Gold Limited and the World Fashion Organisation.
This year however, the event takes place at three different venues where Alfonso has been invited to. The first showcase took place in July in Bayelsa, Nigeria and the last event will be in November in Montreal, Canada.
“This is a high profile event where fashionistas, fashion agencies, distributors meet. Business deals are signed and clinched with world renowned fashion entities. At that stage it is Malawi that gets the spotlight and not me as people tend to appreciate our growing designing industry.
“Individually, the exposure, inspiration and learning experience is what matters to me because it is the same that has over the years gotten me to where I am today as a result of my participation at different fashion events. There is so much that I have implemented and is in my plans from the wealth of experience of other designers,” said Alfonso.
She is expected to showcase 10 pieces from her newly designed outfits of mainly evening gowns and a few attires for men.
The event celebrates cultural diversity expressed through the artistic fashion discipline with the prod theme of Africa being the new inspiration of global fashion.
