The Lilongwe and Districts Hockey League (LDHL) bounces back this year after eight years of absence, according to LDHL chairperson Tisungeni Kandulu.

The league has since secured a K220 000 (about $1 317) sponsorship from Monolux Paints Limited.

“As a committee, we are grateful to Monolux for the sponsorship. It is quite a long time we have not had any competitive league. We had just been playing tournaments. We are expecting to start the league in May.

LDHL has teams such as Super Cheetahs, City Hawks, Capital Braves, Kamuzu Barracks (KB), Bunda College of Agriculture and Natural Resources College.

“The challenge now is to have good playing fields, which are not easily accessible because most of the available ones are owned by schools or institutions. We have been using Civo and Bishop Mackenzie schools for the past years,” said Kandulu.

Meanwhile, the league has today organised a day-long 8-A-Side tournament at Bunda in readiness for the league kick-off.
