Steel Sakuwa Limited joined forces with the journalists and donated iron sheets and other accessories worth over K3 million ($6000) as well as construction workers to undertake the work.

Speaking at the launch of the works over the weekend, Steel Sakuwa sales executive officer Enock Chinthoche said the company was impressed by the social corporate initiative proposal by the club; hence, its decision to support the cause.

Senior Assistant Commissioner for police responsible for Lilongwe Urban, Renford Kamphika, commended the gesture by the media club, saying the project will uplift the morale of police officers who were affected by the tragedy.

Said Kamphika: “As police officers, we can only commit ourselves fully to work if our welfare and well-being is also safeguarded, so we do not take for granted the journalists gesture to prioritise renovation of our houses. We also thank Steel Sakuwa for taking a leading role in this effort.”

BMC chairperson Peter Makawa said the club made the gesture to signal to the public that beyond carrying messages for national development, journalists can also be instruments of development.
