Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company Limited on Monday presented assorted goods worth K1 million (about $3 030) to patients at Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe.

The items included bread, sugar, squash, juice and bars of soap.

Speaking after making the presentation, Limbe Leaf managing director Rodney Hagger said Bwaila Hospital was chosen because it attends to many people who include farmers associated with Limbe Leaf.

He said: “The choice of Bwaila Hospital did not come as a mere fluke. We did our brief survey and established that this is one of the health institutions that handles a lot of cases, with special attention to safe motherhood.”

Mercy Ng’anjo, a matron at the hospital, expressed gratitude and said it is encouraging for people to remember Bwaila Hospital.

The items were packed in 250 packs which were distributed to patients in the maternity wing and other general wards.
