He said the Lions Club of Blantyre has so far supported about 300 needy students in public schools. However, due to donor fatigue from their sister Lions Clubs in the United Kingdom for the current year, the club is struggling to reach many students as it wishes.

“There are many needy students, but we cannot reach them because of lack of resources. We usually rely on our sisters Lions Clubs in UK, but we have not got enough support in this current year,” said Makhecha.

He added that using the club’s resources they have managed to support only seven students at Stella Maris, Blantyre and Henry Henderson Institute (HHI) secondary schools in this academic year.

Makhecha said the tournament which will be played on 2BBB format with a contribution of K75 000 (US$167), is expected to raise K6 million (US$13 333) and this sum will support around 200 needy students.
