Despite being one of the oldest clubs on the land, Red Lions are the least earners in the TNM Sapota Mapeto promotion half-way this season’s drive.

So far, the club has only accumulated 113 SMS hits translating to only K3 164.

During the sixth draw held on Tuesday at College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex in Blantyre, it was revealed that the Reds accumulated only K112 revenue which was far below leaders Big Bullets’ K500 000.

The Zomba-based soldiers are far behind other Malawi Defence Force (MDF) clubs—Moyale, Mafco, Kamuzu Barracks and even rookies Airborne Rangers.

Bullets continue to call the shots in the promotion having accumulated K5.4 million half-way through  the promotion with accumulated hits of  193 040, followed by their rivals Mighty Wanderers who have made K2.7 million with 97 059 accumulated hits whereas Silver Strikers are third with an revenue of K898 100 out of  32 075 hits.

Civo United are fourth with an accumulated revenue of K50 764 out of 1 813 hits.

TNM’s billing manager Franklyn Moyo said the total revenue generated by TNM half- way the promotion is K10 424 912.

“It’s a known fact that most teams participating in the league have been struggling financially; hence, revenue generated by Sapota Mapeto supplements the shortfall,” said Moyo.

This season’s promotion was launched in July by the flagship league sponsors TNM to help teams generate revenue by engaging fans to participate in the drive.

Participants win various prizes such as a Samsung Plasma TV, handsets, TNM airtime, T-shirts and footballs.
