Low turnout mars Kidd’s tour

Despite returning to the country with excitement, legendary Kidd Mkandawire received a disappointing turnout at his shows in Mzuzu and Blantyre and had to cancel some shows.

However, that did not dampen the spirit of the man who was famous in the 1980s.

The crowd reportedly picked up in Blantyre where about 40 people danced to Mkandawire and current Kalimba’s vibes way deep into the night of last Friday.

On Saturday, low patronage hit hard as he performed to a sizeable crowd that scattered the Mulanje Room of Sunbird Capital Hotel.

His last show at Capital City Motel on Sunday afternoon was better off according to the organisers as it was patronised by a number of people.

“We are not disappointed that only a few people attended the shows. We did our part by bringing Kidd Mkandawire to Malawi. We have performed with him and the few people that graced our shows really enjoyed. So, on our part, we have delivered,” said Kalimba Band leader Vita Chirwa.

“It is not something new that a show has been marred by low patronage, as such, we are happy that we have fulfilled our goal of performing with Kidd,” he explained.

Mkandawire was not bothered by the low turnout at the four shows he had.

“As for me, its mission accomplished for I have performed in Malawi after a long break,” he said.

Mkandawire leaves for Denmark on Tuesday.
