Luchenza Municipal Council mayor Brighton Baluwa has hailed the Zokonda Amayi programme aired on MBC Radio 1 for encouraging women of Luchenza to be productive.
The mayor said this on Tuesday when he joined Luchenza Zokonda Amayi Group in a cleanup exercise around the council premises.
Baluwa said he was delighted that Mulendere Luchenza Zokonda Amayi Chapter is striving to make Luchenza clean as one way of complementing the council’s commitment to improving hygiene and sanitation.

He said the council alone cannot manage to keep its surroundings clean, adding that the initiative Zokonda Amayi has undertaken will make the city to look tidy.
“Let me thank Malawi Broadcasting Corporation [MBC] for making our women useful here in Luchenza because we never expected that our ladies can do what they are doing nowadays,” said Baluwa.
Chairperson of the grouping, Lovenes Mtambo, said they organised the sweeping exercise to keep the council clean.
“We understand that the council on its own cannot manage to take care of the whole area; hence, our coming to fill the gap so that Luchenza remains clean,” she said. n
