Lucius lights up Top City launch

Newly-established Mzuzu entertainment firm Top City has what it takes to change the texture of entertainment in the region going by their debut event during the weekend.

Top City, which is managed by youthful Paul Nyirenda, Augustine Chulunga and Mackson Jere, displayed creative organisation during a Lucius Banda show.

“The outfit did not disappoint. It seems it has professionally been organised having given us a glimpse of things to come. I really enjoyed the music performance of the artists,” said German national Michael Kretzer, who was in the country to participate in the three-day Second International Conference on Malawi Literature at Mzuzu University.

However, this would not have been possible without a vintage performance by the veteran musician, who provided fun-seekers with a show to remember.

“I am really thankful to Lucius Banda for the wonderful display at both our shows. Being one of our first shows, this will instill confidence in people that we are here to stay,” said Chulunga.

Lucius and Zembani Band dished out an energetic and scintillating performance of old songs from albums such as Son of a Poor Man and Cease Fire to recent releases; he dazzled to eke out a flawless performance.

“The one singing is not a shadow Member of Parliament; he is a Member of Parliament, not just a mere parliamentarian, but leader of United Democratic Front (UDF) in Parliament. I have always said that I will not leave the stage just because I have acquired these extra roles. This is the testimony. Are you ready to dance!” he asked the crowd before he embarked on a steamrolling performance.

Lucius made a surplus exhibit, dishing 10 songs including Nthawi that attracted a sing along from the audience at the Key Lounge evening show.

Apart from Lucius, other artists such as Wendy Harawa, Sam Simakweli and Kaka also showcased their talents.
