Luwinga OBM robbed K8m

Police in Mzuzu are searching for unidentified people who broke into Luwinga Post Office building and stole K8 million from Opportunity Bank of Malawi (OBM) on Tuesday night.

Mzuzu Police Station spokesperson Martin Bwanali said the robbers entered the building through the front door after tying up security guards.

“They stole cash amounting to K8 million belonging to OBM and K125 000 belonging to Post Office. The watchmen were left tied up until the police came to the scene,” he said.

Meanwhile, police are appealing to the public to tip them off should they have information pertaining to the people that broke into the bank.

“We are assuring people that any information given to us shall always be treated with the highest confidentiality,” said Bwanali.

OBM head of marketing Tamara Nyasulu said they were aware of the robbery, but could not provide information because the matter is under investigation. n
