Mabona: I will make it family-friendly

New president of Mzuzu Golf Club Duncan Mabona has pledged to transform the club to a more family-friendly environment.

Mabona, who floored KisaMwafulirwa in the elections held at Mzuzu Golf Club over the weekend, said this after he was sworn in.

He said Mzuzu Golf Club does not qualify the status of a social family-friendly place because only men patronise the premises leaving women and children in the cold.

Mabona, who heads Toyota Malawi Mzuzu branch, says he would source funds to improve the ambience of the premises through joint ventures to achieve the feat.

Said Mabona: “We will bring amenities such as gym, swimming pool, among others, to attract women and children to patronise the club and share developmental ideologies.

“We don’t want a wife to think twice before allowing you to patronise the golf club, but she must have a positive mind.”

Mabona replaced private practice lawyer Victor Gondwe.

Mwafulirwa won the vice-presidency unopposed.

Davis Kamande also won the hearts of golfers unopposed on the treasurer’s post.

Francis Gondwe, who is now the secretary, humiliated ChrispinMphande to replace Julius Mithi formerly Football Association of Malawi (FAM) executive member who did not contest.

But to comfort Mphande for his loss, he was given the post of bar director.

FelozRavat, Alice Mvalo, among others, are club committee members.
