“Football allows students of the game to learn good values that will shape their behaviour as they grow. Through our methodology, the pitch becomes a perfect classroom for our players to learn to be better off and on the field,” said Vazquez.
He said the Real Madrid Foundation is about promoting intrinsic values of sports and to use these values as an educational tool or a method of social integration for benefitting the disadvantaged in society.
This project targets 100 vulnerable children with special emphasis in promoting their education, health, positive behaviour change and grass roots soccer development.
Madrid has agreed to inject 9 000 euro (about K4.2 million) towards this project in Nkhotakota.
According to programme coordinator Devlin Msowoya, since the partnership started in 2012, 10 local coaches have been trained together to promote grass roots soccer in the area.
“This year, eight coaches from Alinafe plus four other coaches from the White Fathers in Lilongwe, who are implementing a similar programme, will be trained,” he said.
