Magang’a drubbed Lox 360 69-57 in the finals of Malawi Environmental Endo

wment Trust (Meet) Basketball Bonanza at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) on Sunday to end a three-year title drought in the Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal).

They even pushed aside Sozobal champions Bricks with an emphatic 59-49 triumph in the semi-finals to prove their renewed vigour.

Christian Eagles sparkled in the ladies category following their 32-28 victory over their hottest rivals Blantyre Netters. Wildcats took the third slot after beating Kalibu Academy 26-8.

Magang’a’s talismanic coach/player Hope Chisamanga seemed to ensured that his side successfully exited a jungle of exasperation in the thrilling final as he made an individual contribution of 18 points, including two three-pointers.

His teammate Takondwa Jana was the second best performer with 15points while Manny Bessy, who was fouled out in the last quarter, accumulated 10 points for the losers.

“At least we now have something to smile about,” said Chisamanga after the final. “We will try our best to achieve a similar feat in the league this season.”

In spite of that, Meet board of trustees’ chairperson Daulos Mauambeta said: “The aim of this contest was to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and conserving the environment. We, therefore, encourage the players to be ambassadors of this cause,” Mauambeta said.
