Magang’a will lead a three-team pack of Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) ambassadors at the National Basketball Championships after winning a second successive game over rivals Bricks during the best-of-three qualifiers final on Sunday.

Magang’a’s latest victory over the Sozobal champions at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) came barely a week after a 71-50 win at Chancellor College in Zomba.

Bricks won the initial qualifiers final 75-73.

Despite having a strong squad comprising captain Fletcher Mtawali, Weluzani Chingota, Chrispin Makaka, Noel Chikoleka and Chikondi Mwendera, Bricks could not cope with the versatility of the youthful Maganga’a.

Magang’a coach and player Hope Chisamanga led by example by pouring in 30 points, including three three-pointers.

“We came out hard. We had nothing to lose and we played a good game,” said Chisamanga.

“We wanted to show them that their defending of the Sozobal title recently does not guarantee them the best team accolade in the South,” he said.

Apart from qualifying for the National Championships scheduled for Lilongwe sometime in December, Magang’a, Bricks and Cobbe Barracks received gold, silver and bronze medals respectively for taking the qualifiers’ first, second and third positions.
