Zomba-based basketball giants Magang’a on Sunday exploded to life with a bewitching performance that saw them whip Blantyre-based Poly Panthers 108-49.

The Southern Zone Basketball (Sozobal) match was played at Chancellor College Court and stirred the passions of a handful basketball followers who turned up to watch the game.

Soon after the visitors scored a few baskets in the early stages of the game, hell broke loose.

Led by Hope Chisamanga, Magang’a showed characteristic grit and registered more points to lead 27-14 in the first quarter.

As if that were not enough, Takondwa Jana, Joseph Nankwenya and Emmanuel Lembi, netted three-point shots for the home team to lead 46-25 and 74-36 in the second and third quarters respectively.

The Panthers through Stanley Mkwezalamba, Wishes Msadala and Yohane Banda tried to up their game, but to no avail.

The damage got worse in the final quarter when Magang’a, who were on top of their game, turned the proceedings into a training session.

Playing earlier in the Joseph Chikwemba K250 000 (about $625) Neighbourhood to Neighbourhood Basketball Tournament for teams in Zomba townships, Matawale beat Cobbe Barracks 69-51 whereas Ndola outsmarted St Mary’s 60-48.
